ABSN Program in Virginia Overview

With three start dates per year, Averett’s ABSN program in Virginia is designed to provide non-nurses an all-access path to a quality nursing education that can be completed in as few as 16 months.

The ABSN program builds on your existing education to prepare you to provide compassionate, evidence-based care and serve as a leader of positive change with a passion for excellence, social responsibility and lifelong learning.

While people with non-nursing bachelor’s degrees are eligible for the program, applicants with at least 60 non-nursing credits may also qualify. In fact, it’s the only ABSN program in Virginia that offers alternatives to a bachelor’s degree to qualify for admission.

Prior health care experience isn’t required for entry into our program, either, but there are prerequisites that must be completed to qualify for admission.

How Our Accelerated BSN Works

Our accelerated nursing program is built for students with prior college experience who want to fast-track their path to nursing. Because we offer multiple start dates and a rolling admissions process, you can begin nursing school soon.

The ABSN program comprises a rigorous, accredited curriculum split over four full-time semesters:

  • Online nursing courses lay the groundwork for your nursing theory knowledge via an interactive e-Learning platform.
  • Skills and simulation labs allow you to apply your online coursework and hone your clinical judgment in a risk-free environment using state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Clinical rotations grant you access to valuable real-world patient-care scenarios at some of the top health care facilities in Norfolk and Hampton Roads.

Our accelerated nursing program comprises the same nursing education you’d receive in a traditional classroom-based program; the only difference is the amount of time it takes to complete.

The accelerated nursing program is intense and requires an immense amount of dedication and drive, but you’ll have access to experienced faculty dedicated to helping you succeed every step of the way.

Despite the rigor, earning a degree from our ABSN program is worth it. Graduation from our program qualifies you to sit for the NCLEX-RN® licensure exam and pursue a rewarding nursing career.
